Woke's True Legacy
You can no longer be trusted to do important things.
I think there’s a sense - maybe more of a cope - on the left that with woke on the wane, things can revert back to normal. We’re already seeing some of this.
“That never happened.”
“Nobody said that.”
“Get over it. It’s done.”
This isn’t going to do the job. This isn’t how it works, and isn’t likely to become how it works anytime soon.
Woke was like a neck tattoo. Maybe it was edgy when you got it, but the fashion faded. Now you just have a gross mark on your neck, and it’s permanent.
What Democrats [used to] want to do involves making serious changes to how important institutions in the United States function. Certainly, this was true of my brand of Democrat.
I want a radical overhaul of how the financial services industry is policed. I want sweeping investments in American infrastructure, such that we’re leading the world again on skyscrapers, bridges, transportation. I want a new and better healthcare system. I want consumer protection guidelines that can hurt monopolistic corporations the way they hurt their customers.
I want great, big stuff. And weird, deluded people cannot be trusted with great, big stuff.
You can’t expect anyone to have faith in you upending the healthcare system and building something better if you’re saying weird shit about women having penises and western society being a moral stain on humanity. You’ve revealed yourself to be a goofball, and goofballs don’t get to be in charge of things as important as my healthcare.
Democrats regarded (some still regard) their social justice pandering as cost free. It was not, and is not. It is quite literally killing the entire project.
It may be true that voters don’t care much about trans issues or the attendant social justice gobbledygook. Not many people will instantly switch their votes over the 1619 Project, or calls to “defund the police.” Those specific issues are reliably ranked as low interest relative to big ticket items like the economy and immigration.
The problem is that any implementation of any remotely bold idea requires deep faith in the implementers. It needs to be people who know what they’re doing who do this stuff. Lefties destroyed what credibility they needed when they started shrugging at things like racist hiring practices and dicks in the ladies’ room.
Now you’re unserious. Now we can’t trust you.
The people to reconfigure the American healthcare system from the ground up, and fundamentally reapproach consumer protection, and build the trains I ride, and the buildings I work in, and the bridges I cross, cannot also be the people telling me that “micro-looting” is revolution and tent cities are liberation. That’s disqualifying.
No one is going to let you break important things if you say things like that, even if you promise to build something better. Why would we ever think you have what it takes to do that when you are this stupid and this cowardly?
Doesn’t matter that we know it’s a pander. That actually makes it worse: “We’re not really insane, we’re just pussies.”
Cool. But pussies are not who I want doing the things I want the left to do. Pussies will not be able to engineer my dreams. My priorities are going to be very difficult to realize. If you are a worthless, gaping pussy, I don’t even want you trying. You’re not the one for the job.
Culture war goofery may be low stakes in the direct sense, but it echoes. I need hard things from you. Things I can only entrust to the most competent, and most forthright. To the most serious.
Is that you? Is it really? What reasons are you giving me to think so? You’ve fucked up even the things you bother talking about.
Shoving trans issues to center stage may have been useful in looking cool for your friends, but it set back actual trans people for probably forever. You dragged a racially-stabilizing country into race chaos for clicks, and everyone is mad at everyone now. Men are miserable. Women hate them.
Thank you for this, so much. Let me know where I can mail the fruit basket, you twerps.
Normie liberals regarded woke as a kind of begrudging obligation. They actually don’t like it much, and never did, but they tolerated it to remain on side. They weren’t considering its second order effects.
Woke was a test. It was a test that the left - especially Democrats - failed.
I don’t know how long it will take to repair the damage, or whether the damage can even be repaired. I just know that if I have to look at your face, and the last thing I remember about it is the time insane nonsense came spewing out of it, no amount of booze or drugs or electroconvulsive therapy could ever make me forget that.
There was a time when a dishonored leader would fall on his sword. When a captain would go down with the ship he let sink. We don’t need to bring back that time in a literal sense, but in a proverbial sense, we absolutely do.
A lot of you just need to resign.

Left-wing people are oblivious to the concept of their own credibility. It's part of the mindset; an inevitable outgrowth of "my vision of the world should be imposed on everyone else by force".
Even when they concede some past terrible deception, they think that they get to start fresh with their next big idea.
They would never extend this charity to anyone else, because no one else is the Main Character.
"Now you’re unserious. Now we can’t trust you."
I think a chunk of the country regards them as worse than just unserious.
